Atreyu Jesse Kunz

So much has happened since my last posting. Little Atreyu Jesse Kunz was born on April 20 at 4:23 pm. He weighed 8 lbs 7 oz and was 20 and 3/4 inches long.

He gave us a good scare. My water broke at about 2 in the morning and we went to the hospital at about 6:30. They started me on antibiotics since I was Group Strep B positive. Things progressed pretty well. I ended up getting an epidural but I don't really know what time that was. I dilated to almost a 7 but he just wasn't able to drop down. My doctor decided to do a c-section. Sometime in between them monitoring baby in labor and delivery and by the time they got him out, his heart had completely stopped. They did CPR and and intubated him and finally after 3 incredibly long minutes they got his heart going and got him breathing.

It turns out that there was some kind of infection in my placenta. I had spiked a fever right before the c-section and he had one as well. They put him on antibiotics and we were hoping he would only have to be on them for 72 hours. Unfortunately, the morning we were going to take him home, he started doing worse and we ended up having to send him to the NICU in Pocatello. He was there for a week and improved completely. Atreyu is 5 weeks old now and he's doing great. He eats all the time and is gaining weight. He is such a sweet baby and he's pretty well behaved except early in the morning. He loves mornings and wants to be awake and look around and I hate mornings. Maybe we can think of some kind of compromise.

This was taken at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital before we had to send him to the NICU.

Dad and Trey hanging out in the NICU.

The IV in his hand was the fourth he had to have. He has been poked and prodded probably more than I have. What a little trooper.

Here he is a few weeks old chillin' on the LoveSac.

  2. Yay! I'm so glad he's here and that it all worked out. What a cutie! Enjoy! (Though I agree, it's hard to do in the wee hours of the morning...haha!)
